Add Groundcheck to ChatGPT
One minute, and ChatGPT can look up the real temperature that a weather balloon measured near any place, plus Groundcheck's own forecast.
The address to paste
Looking up the current address…The address ends in /mcp. It changes now and then, because the server runs behind a temporary tunnel, so always copy it from here.
Add it, step by step
- Open ChatGPT and go to your settings. Open the Plugins area.
- Click the + button to add a new one.
- Choose Add custom MCP server.
- Give it a name, for example Groundcheck, and paste the address from the box above.
- For authentication choose No authentication. Tick the box that says you trust the server, and click Create.
- Start a new chat, switch Groundcheck on for it, and ask a question. Kaboom, it works.
Things to ask
- “What did a weather balloon measure near Berlin today?”
- “Give me Groundcheck's forecast for Potsdam for the next days.”
- “Which balloon station is closest to Nairobi, and how old is its latest reading?”
- “How warm was it around the balloon stations 50 days ago?”
- “How many readings does Groundcheck have, and from which sources?”
ChatGPT may ask your permission the first time it calls a tool. Groundcheck has temperature, air pressure and humidity only: no rain, wind or clouds.
What ChatGPT can use
| nearest_station | The weather balloon reading nearest to a latitude and longitude. |
| predictor | Groundcheck's own forecast for a place, built only from balloon readings. It can be wrong. |
| current_reading | The newest reading in Groundcheck. |
| recent_readings | All readings from the last few days. |
| weather_days_ago | What the balloons measured a number of days ago. |
| station_history | The history of one station. |
| search_readings | Find readings by temperature. |
| stats | How many readings there are and where they come from. |
If it does not work
- ChatGPT cannot connect. The address changed. Reload this page, copy the new address, and edit the server's address in ChatGPT.
- The answer says no data. There may be no balloon station within hundreds of kilometres of that place, for example in parts of Africa and the tropics.
Everything in the answers comes from real balloon measurements by the networks credited on the credits page. Groundcheck is free software: github.com/Luishae07/groundcheck.
